Top 10 Essential iPhone Apps

Welcome to the first edition of our new ‘Top 10 Apps’ series. In this series, we will be recommending our favourite apps for various different Apple platforms and of many different categories. Well, here we go…

1: Google
The official Google app gives users the ability to use the Google search engine using a friendly UI. It also gives access to the Google Assistant, a superior version of Siri with conversational awareness, most of the Siri features and others such as tracking a package vocally and finding nearby restaurants (something Siri does, but not very well).

2: Enlight
Enlight was developed from the ground up to use the full power of the CPU and GPU available in Apple’s devices, the end result being the quickest and most powerful photo-editing tools available in iOS. On iPhone 7 and later, the app takes advantage of the wide colour gamut of the display. The wide array of customizable filters and special effects allow you to fully utilize the amazing cameras in modern iPhones.

3: Duolingo
Learning a new language is a difficult task, but one that can be made easier with great apps such as Duolingo. The majority of Duolingo’s users use it to learn a language before heading abroad – such as Spanish, German, French, Greek or Japanese.

4: Nike+
Training ClubNike’s free workout app is unsurprisingly extremely popular, with many celebrities such as Ellie Goulding and Ashton Eaton using the app regularly. The app allows you to track your exercise and workouts, as well as sync it with various social media platforms.

5: Google Maps
Google Maps has become the undisputed king of all map apps, it’s a reliable service which does all the things normal map apps do, as well as providing features such as real-time traffic alerts and navigation – all within the app. You can also read and write reviews of restaurants and other businesses all from within the app.

6: PayPal
The PayPal app allows you to check up on your account’s transactions, send or receive money, and photograph checks or credit cards to add them to your account with having to worry about the many numbers associated with online banking.

7: Instagram
Instagram is by far the best social network for sharing pictures and adding a huge variety of filters to them. It has grown massively since it’s release in 2010 and for good reason, it has constantly added new features in order to fit with the competition, famously adding Snapchat’s ‘stories’ feature into the app.

8: Audible
Do you prefer listening to books to reading them? With Audible, you can do that, with 180,000 books in their library, and more being added all the time, you will never get bored with their huge range of books. They also have many features not seen in other similar apps, such as the ability to slow down or speed up narration depending on your preferred listening experience.

9: Amazon
Being the number 1 online retailer, Amazon’s vast range of products and users make this the perfect shopping app. With exclusive features such as Amazon Prime and Amazon Gold (which notifies you of great deals on Amazon), Amazon is a great app for people looking for any kind of product.

10: Spotify
Spotify is changing the game for the entire music industry, including Spotify’s competitors. It is free on PC and Mac but costs $10 a month if you want the entire feature-rich app on iPhone. The paid version of the app gives you the ability to not just stream but download songs, as well as being able to listen to entire albums and create playlists.
